Typography/Font/Masthead

The masthead is one of the most vital parts to the  magazine front cover.  It is the first part that the buyer will see as it is often bold and catches the attention of the reader.

Using Kizoa I created a small video of a few magazine mastheads that really stand out and catch the attention of people easily.  As we can see, they used bold and strong colours which helps to emphasise the effect.  All of the font used in these is san-serif which makes the magazine look more modern while also making the magazine look more sharp and less harsh.

The mastheads such as 'baseline' use design elements in their title, such as the lines through the lettering.  This connotates that there is an edgy effect to the magazine but also that it is broken down so it is simplistic to understand.  Other mastheads such as 'Kerrang' use punctutation at the end of the masthead such as an explanation mark which connotes and sharp and precise feel to the magazine.
Therefore; after looking at different mastheads I will be ensuring that my masthead uses bold and blocked colours that will make the front cover eye catching.
