MAGAZINE ANALYSIS 1

The masthead 'reloaded' connotes a new issue with new information with every issue of the magazine.  The two different colours within one title is quite rare, but the pink is used consistently throughout the cover.

Published every Thursday.

The target audience is aimed at both genders between the ages of 12 and 18 who like to keep up to date with rap music and hip hop as it is a hybrid magazine.

Costs £1.79

The writing on the side of the magazine is floating so it looks neater and more appealing than if they were stuck to the side of the magazine.

It is a statement picture that catches attention.

The masthead is not covered up by the head in anyway which helps buyers to easily identify the magazine.

The coverline is above the masthead which allows people to see what is involved within the magazine.

The two different colours within one title is quite rare, but the pink is used consistently throughout the cover.  This helps to distinguish the brand indentity.

Block capitals make it stand out from the background.

The masthead is a san-serif font which gives the magazine a more modern, precise and less harsh look.

There is an equal distance between the lettering in the title which makes it professional.

The black lines in between the pink letters show consistency with the colour black too.  It is more effective than simply two pink letters at the begginning.

The Masthead

The Image

The facial expression is serious and stern.  He is not similing which does conform to the stereotype of rappers.

The snapback and sunglasses are often what rappers wear so the mise-en-scene for this image relates to the stereotype.

The sunglasses make the direction of gaze hard to identify but he is more than likely staring straight into the camera.  This gives emphasises the serious expression on his face.

The body language from the model is quite intimidating in this image.  The gun figure he is making towards his head makes it more intimidating than he's stance.

The body language relates well to his facial expression and stance.

The gold necklace matches the gold watch he is wearing which shows consistency, however gold jewellery is associated with rappers.

This image reaches out to the identified target audience because the image shows everything that it associated with rappers.  The clothing and the body language make it obvious who this is aimed at without reading any of the coverlines.

Cover Lines

There are no other images on this front page because simpliciity is sometimes better and more effective.  Using other images would have made the page overcrowded, making it harder to read.

This cover line promotes what is inclcuded in the magazine such as different artists which helps to sell the magazine if the target audience are also interested in the promoted content.

This cover line is promoting the competitions and prizes that can be won in the magazine.  This can help to draw in customers as they are getting a chance of winnin something as well as reading the magazine about  music.

Connotations

The typeface is consistent throughout the front page and the font is sans-serif which shows that the magazine is more targeted towards the younger generation rather than the older generation as it is a simplistic font.

The simple graphics in this magazine show that it is not necessarily a serious magazine as it quite simplistic which connotates that it is a very informal magazine.

The connotations of the colours used in this magazine are a mixture.  The connotation of black is harsh while pink is lightening but they work well together on the magazine.
