NATASHA WARR AS MEDIA
MAGAZINE ANALYSIS 3

The masthead of this magazine connotates what most rappers strive to achieve as artists; respect from their fans which means it is relatable to the target audience as they respect the rappers.
There are only really 2 main colours that are used on the text which are red and white. They are used throughout the front page which makes is consistent.
The image is a close up which is not usually the type of shot used for a front page but it is still a bold image that will grab the focus of potential buyers.
Cost of the magazine ranges from $10-$15.
The Masthead

This masthead is different to others because of the full stop at the end of word which is quite unusual for a magazine. Having the block red behind it is quite rare in magazines which also helps make it easy to distinguish the brand identity.
This masthead is also different because for every issue it does not use the same colours for the title, which can be seen below. This is not common in most magazines.

The masthead is san-serif which makes the magazine appeal more to their target audience as it helps to make the magazine more modern and less harsh.
The promoted content is floating which makes the magazine more professional but also it makes the magazine more appealing for readers.
Despite there not being a model covering the masthead in this particular magazine, there are some issues that do have this but the magazine is still easy to identify because it does not cover too much of the masthead.
The Image

Due to this shot being a close up, it is difficult to see his clothing, although it is obvious he is wearing a white t-shirt. He is also wearing sunglasses which is what rappers tend to be seen in, so this conforms to the stereotype of rappers.
The facial expression of this model is different to the others, rather than being serious he is smiling which gives the magazine a less intimidating feeling.
The sunglasses make the direction of gaze difficult to identify but it is obvious he is not staring straight at the camera but looking away. This is almost as if this shot was an accident.
The close up shot can make the magazine feel more friendly and welcoming as we are not able to see the body language, which is different to the other magazines.
This image reaches out to the target audience because it does not conform to the stereotype, it challenges it which can intrigue the readers.
There are no other images on this front page because of the close up used, it would make it extremely difficult to place another image on this page. Also simpliciity often works best on magazine covers rather than overcrowding the page.
Coverlines

This coverline is a list of artists that appear inside this issue of the magazine. This is situated on the bottom right of the magazine, the colour of the writing is easily seen on the dark blue background. Having the names of the artists allows people to know there is information on them in this article, but they cannot find out what that information is without buying the magazine itself.
This image is of both the headline but also a coverline. The top part of the image is the headline which is about the main article of the artist in the image. It is bolder and bigger than the coverlines to know this is the main story. The artists' name is bigger than any other writing on the page other than the masthead.
The coverline is directly below the headline, but the main part is in a different colour than the rest of the coverline to make it obvious who the article might be about. Underneath is the main snippets of what can be seen inside the magazine
Connotations
The graphics used in this magazine are quite simple which means it is easy for readers to relate to and understand which can help make it an effective magazine. The simplicity of the graphics also makes it quite modern and less harsh.
The typeface is constant on the front page and the font is sans-serif which shows that the magazine is more targeted towards the 'younger' generation. This is because this font is more common in todays society but also it makes the magazine more modern.
There a mixture of connotations for the colours used in this magazine because red can symbolise love, hate, anger or danger while white connotates peace. Blue is also quite a calm and relaxing colour which leads us to believe that the red is used in an less aggressive sense.
