DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD INTERVIEW

Myles Ellis is the newest rapper on the scene. He exploded onto the music scene with his first single ‘Who Cares?’ back in August. Since then he has been busy working in the studio on his first album. Since the release of the single, he has kept a fairly low profile and we have gained the first magazine interview with the rising star.

How does it feel to be the most successful and youngest rap star of the current decade?
“I don’t see myself as successful at all, I’m simply  doing something that I love but the  response has been insane.  It hasn’t really sunk in yet and I doubt it will for sometime.”

So, did your first singles succes come as massive shock to you?
“Shock is an understatement to say the least, it was the last thing I ever expected.  I originally wrote the song in my bedroom when I was 15, so I didn’t think it would become number 1 in 10 different countries."

How have you coped the last couple of months then considering the success?
“I haven’t really.  Its been such a huge headrush, I can’t keep up.  I’ve just been swept along with whatever comes my way.  I am just enjoying myself."

Have you managed to see much of your family since your career took off?
“Absolutely. My family are the most important thing in my life and I would never not make time to see them.  They’ve been such a big support to me over the years.  They keep me grounded.”

Have you always wanted to be a rapper?
“No way.  I wanted to be a fireman when I was really little, then I wanted to be a builder.  I only really knew I wanted to do this about 2 years ago.”

Are you currently working on your first album now?
“I’ve been working on the album for several months now, but it’s nowhere near ready.  There is only two tracks on there that I am truly happy with right now."

When will the first tour be then?
“Well I need to sort the album out first, so it all depends on how long that takes.”

So when do you think the album will be ready for us to hear then?
Myles laughs to himself.  “Honestly, I haven’t got a clue.  I won’t allow my first album to be anything less than perfect; and I have to be truly satisfied with it.  Otherwise, what’s the point?”

When was the last time you had a duvet day, you always seem so busy with your career?
“I actually haad a duvet weekend a couple of weeks ago.  It was as soon as I got back from America, I was so worn out from all the travelling and jet lag.  I slept for nearly 20 hours and watched films for the rest of the weekend.  I am quite a lazy person if I get the chance to be.”

How has the attention from the ladies been for you?
Myles chuckles to himself.  “Erm, yeah its been cool.  It’s been very different, I was never a boy who had all the girls after him so it’s all very odd for me.  But fans are so important, whoever they are.”

Have you met any of the bigger rap stars yet?
“Erm... I briefly had an encounter with Jay-Z when I was in LA.  It was only a brief ‘Hello’,  he gave me some tips on how to make it through this industry.  He’s a very humble guy, I’d love to meet Kanye West though.”

When you were growing up, who represented the ideal rap  stardom to you?
“It has to be the legend Eminem.  I remember constantly  listening to his albums in my room from about the age of  8.  Even after all the years he’s been around, his music is still the best out there.  He is the true sensation of rap.  He is my inspiration, his success is out of this world.  As an new artist, I can only hope and dream for a career like his.”

Do you ever worry about what will happen in the future with your behaviour and your career?
“Some times.  I know what I want to do and where I want to be.  Everyone needs time away from the spotlight though and hopefully I’ll stay grounded and I will always be thankful for this opportunity.  I will use it to my advantage and be the best artist I can be and make everyone proud.”

How are you going to portray yourself as an artist?
“Simple. Just as myself.  Fans will know the real me then and can truly support me.  I think it’s important to let them know who you are, they can connect with you and your music more.  That’s what I believe anyway.”

Thank you to Myles Ellis for giving us the first exclusive interview of his upcoming career.  We look forward to  hearing his first album and wish him the best of luck.
