The Sony Music Entertainment can also be known as Sony Music or by the initials SME. It is an American corporation of music which is operated and managed by Sony Corporation of America. The enterprise was first founded in 1929 as an American Record Corporation, however in 1938 it was renamed Columbia Recording Corporation. The company was bought by Sony Corporation of Japan in 1987, where it was later renamed SME in 1991. It is now the second largest music company in the world, after the Universal Music Group. Due to Sony Music being the second largest music company, they have a vast number of artists on their records. Some of the well known music artists who belong to Sony Music are: Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Adele, Calvin Harris and the legends that are Michael Jackson and Whitney Huston.













The Universal Music Group (abbreviated to UMG) is an American worldwide music corporation that operates as a subsidary of Paris-based French media called Vivendi. It is the largest music corporation in the world, it also owns Universal Music Publishing Group which is the second largest corporation in the world. The headquarters of UMG is situated in Santa Monica, California, United States of America. Universal Music Group International (UMGI) is headquarted in High Street Kensington, London; they manage UMG's offices in the majority of the countries that are outside of North America. UMG publish and used to publish the rights of famous artists such as Kanye West, Pussycat Dolls, 50 Cent, Eminem, The Beatles and Queen.

The Warner Music Group which is also known as Warner Music or by the initials of WMG. They are an American major global record company which is headqaurted in New York City. This music group is one of the 'big three' recording companies in the world; however it is behind UMG and SME. The company operates some of the largest and most successful recording labels in the world, including the flagship labels Warner Bros Records and Atlantic Records. Warner Music Group also own Warner Music which is one of the largest music publishing companies in the world. Due to WMG being on the 'big three' means that they publish the rights of hundreds of famous artists. Some of these artists are: Wiz Khalifia, Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Madonna, Taylor Swift and Oasis.

EMI is also known as EMI Music which was a British multinational music recording and publishing company, electronic device and systems manufacturing company which is headquarted in London. When it broke up in 2012, it was the fourth largest business group and family of record labels in the recording industry and was part of the big four record companies (now there is only the big three). The record labels included EMI Records, Virging Records, Capitol Records and Parlophone. The EMI Group had a major publishing arm, it was based in London but had offices all over the globe. EMI had the publishing rights of over 1.3 million songs where they controlled the libraries of artists such as: Beyoncé, Jay-Z, The Black Eyed Peas and Sean Paul.
