DIGIPACK ANALYSIS
By Natasha Warr
What is a digipak?
A digipak is the packaging that comes with a CD or a DVD which is a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood. Ther are many features to the digipak, these are:
-
Digipaks were the first alternative to jewel cases so the term Digipak was used generically even if the media holder was a hub rather than a full plastic tray.
-
Digipaks consist of a book paperboard with one or two plastic trays inside which hold the CD or DVD.
-
Digipaks are usually used for the release of a single or a special edition of CD albums. Similarly for DVD's, the DVDigipack is used for premium packaging for DVDs and DVD sets.
ALBUM COVER ANALYSIS:
PROFESSOR GREEN - GROWING UP IN PUBLIC
This album has the artists name at the top of the album cover which represents him and a logo. This is common on most album covers, as it promotes them as an artist but also allows buyers to recognise whose album it is.

The album cover also has the name of the album which again, helps buyers to identify the correct album to purchase; while also promoting the album.
This 'Parental Advisory' logo at the bottom informs people that it has explicit language in the songs. This warns people to not play the songs in front of children under a certain age or in front of them at all.
The picture on this album cover is Professor Green himself, with wings attached to him. On the songs, he raps about problems involving his personal life, growing as a person within the spotlight of the public, marrying his wife and more; so this picture is a generic picture that could represent a lot about his feelings.
The background colour blends well with the text colour and the image on the front of the album cover. The background colour is lighter in the middle and becomes darker around the outside which makes its stand out more.
On the back is the barcode which is an appropriate place to put it as it does not look odd on the front of the album cover and allows there to be more focus on the album cover.

The wings are by themselves on the back of the album cover, but it is showing continuity throughout the digipak. This simplistic design is very effective on the back of the album cover. The majority of people are only really looking for the names of the songs on the back of the album cover.
There is a list of the songs on the back of the album cover which is medium size so there is not anything that is drawing more attention than anything else. The colour of the text on the background work well together, it is not difficult to read the song names either.
At the bottom are the people involved in the making and production the album, along with the terms and conditions of the album and copyright.

The CD itself still has the artist's name on which promotes him as an artist but also makes it easily identifiable.
The CD has the wings on it as well which carries on the theme which is represented on the front cover of the album and the back cover.
The background colour of purple matches well with the rest of the album covers, however this is a lighter purple but the colour is continuous throughout.
