What is a focus pull?

A focus pull is a camera technique in which the focus changes during a shot; this means adjusting the focus from one subject to another.  The shot on the right is an example of a focus pull.  The camera begins focused on the flower in the foreground, then adjusts the focus onto the girl until she is sharp.

How To Make A Focus Pull

To make a focus pull, it is ismply done on the camera rather than editing.  We found two objects which were bottles, to film.  We focused the camera on the bottle nearest to us and filmed for a couple of seconds, we then changed the focuse by using the focus ring so there was a sharp transition from the behind one being unfocused to becoming focused.

Below is our finished focus pull video.
